Alix Claps is a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She focuses her practice on family law and is recognized for her thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to complex matrimonial matters.
A native of Randolph, New Jersey, Alix is a graduate of Randolph High School. She earned a Bachelor of Theatre Arts from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts in English Literature with a concentration in Dramatic Literature from DePaul University, and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law – Newark, where she graduated cum laude.
Before pursuing a legal career, Alix worked extensively in the theatre industry as a stage manager. She held positions with several respected regional theatres, including Music Theatre Wichita, Ogunquit Playhouse, and Theatre By the Sea. She later served for seven years as Production Stage Manager and Production Manager for NYU Steinhardt’s programs in Vocal Performance, Educational Theatre, and Drama Therapy. In addition, she spent nine years as the stage manager for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, an event featured in the PBS documentary Broadway or Bust.
During law school, Alix gained experience in entertainment and theatre law through internships with ICM Partners in the Theatre Division’s Business Affairs office and with theatre attorneys Diane Krausz and Doug Nevin. Following graduation, she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Edith K. Payne and the Honorable Christine A. Farrington in the Civil Division of the Essex County Superior Court.
Alix is an active member of the Morris County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association, where she participates on the Family Law Executive Committee and previously served as co-chair of the Family Law Section Young Lawyers Subcommittee. She is also a member of the Barry I. Croland Family Law American Inn of Court.
